    Description

This sale is for a WWII Era, screw-back enamel Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI/DI) for the 10th Engineer Battalion of the US Army. The pin is marked on the back- "N.S. Meyer- New York", with the NS Meyer Shield left of the screw-pin. This is a screw-back version that was phased out around 1943. The item is in excellent condition and measures regulation size at 1 X 1 1/8 inches. There is some wear-loss to the black enamel (upper right of the crest).
The design for this DI dates to August 31, 1940, when the Army approved the design. The unit was originally organized during the Civil War, and its crest draws heavily on heraldic imagery from its Civil War and WWI service. In WWII, this unit saw service in Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Anzio, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe.
This insignia ships free USPS First Class mail.
