    Description

This sale is for a WWII, or possibly pre-war, enamel, distinctive unit insignia (DUI/DI) for the 6th Engineer Battalion of the US Army. This is the screw-back version, that would have been out of production before 1943 and is not marked. The design has an elegant single oak leaf with a black enamel oval border that reads " Clairs Chenes N'Obliez Jamais," or "The Cleared Oaks- Never Forget Them," alluding to the unit's WWI service in White Oaks France. The back is unmarked, but has "R.H." hand engraved in small letter- looks to be a period personalization
    .
The design dates to September 17, 1925, when it was approved by the Army. The unit was organized during the First World War, and its heraldic imagery in the crest comes from its service in that war. In WWII, the unit saw service in New Guinea, Luzon, and Ryukyus.
This insignia ships free USPS First Class Mail.
