The Hardcover book is titled “Walt Disney’s Bambi: The Story and The Film”. Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston provide a wonderful history of the making of this 1942 Disney Feature Film all the way through to the release of the film’s 1989 videotape. The books illustrations feature paintings, sketches and film cels used during its production.
There is also a Bonus Flip Book with this package appropriately titled: “Walt Disney’s BAMBI The Flip Book” where you literally flip through in your hands to watch, Bambi, Thumper, The Owl & Bambi’s Father, The Stag, all come to life through the magic of animation!
Walt Disney’s 1942 release of Bambi had been a long time in the making as it originally started productionin 1935. The Studio, however, had other preoccupations with the completion of Pinocchio and other films. Four of Disney’s "Nine Old Men” were tasked with keeping the project moving. These four animators were Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, Eric Larson and Milt Kahl. One of the first things that strikes you about Bambi is its incredible naturalistic details of the animals and backgrounds. The curiousity, tenderness, realism and humanity that animator Frank Thomas was able to draw into his character Bambi was exquisitely executed.
Ollie Johnston’s development of Thumper as Bambi’s true friend started from their very first encounter in the scene when the young rabbit Thumper remarks in a loud voice that the fawn Bambi “is kinda wobbly” and that “he doesn’t walk to good.” Thumper’s Mother then tells him, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all.” The point of the movie is that the characters in Bambi were real animals - any animals - living in a real forest! Bambi is considered to be one of Walt Disney masterpieces.
We are the original owners of this sealed two book set of Bambi Books by Frank Thomas & Ollie Johnston that were released in 1990. The Book "Walt Disney’s BAMBI: The Story And The Film” measures about 9” x 11”. They are in Near Mint Condition & now 30 Years Old!
